And Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes believes Mercer is a perfect match. The county executive said the Office of Economic Development and Sustainability met under his direction Monday to begin reviewing properties that could potentially fit Amazon's wish list for a second corporate headquarters. Amazon, among other factors, is looking for: Metropolitan areas with more than one million people A stable and business-friendly environment Urban or suburban locations with the potential to attract and retain strong technical talent Communities that think big and creatively when considering locations and real estate options An urban or downtown campus A similar layout to Amazon's Seattle campus A development-prepped site. 5 reasons N.J. could land Amazon's new HQ, and 3 reasons we won't "Mercer County has the perfect mix of proximity to large metropolitan areas, mass transit, a diverse, well-educated workforce, and access to numerous cultural and recreational resources that ensure a great quality of life," Hughes said in a statement. Wherever Amazon chooses is likely to land not just a new employer, but billions of dollars in future growth. The said in its announcement last week that it estimates its investments in Seattle, where its headquartered, resulted in an additional $38 billion in the city's economy. "I plan to work with local and state officials to advocate on behalf of our county as the perfect site for Amazon's new headquarters," Hughes said. Hughes said the county is working to respond by Amazon's proposal deadline of Oct. 19, 2017. Cities around the country have been announcing they're interested in having Amazon come to town, likely setting off a bidding war for the jobs and billions in investments. CNN Money prognosticated Monday on eight cities in North America that likely have what it takes. Kevin Shea may be reached at kshea@njadvancemedia.com. Follow him on Twitter@kevintshea.
