Cal Berkley BA Business and Political Science, University of Pennslyvania MBA The Wharton School. He's tall. More on that later. 2017 has been a huge year for connectivity in real estate. Amazon included connectivity standards in their HQ2 RFP. Sidewalk Lab’s smart city project in Toronto has an estimated $1B price tag at a time when 99% of Toronto’s office workers say access to reliable connectivity in the office is critical for success. Let me throw my two cents in. What is the other 1% thinking? You can turn off the water in a building and no one would care for a while. Shut down the internet and…..anarchy! Innovative landlords are using connectivity to attract top tenants. Leading real estate co’s like Brookfield, Hines, and Blackstone have upped their adoption of WiredScore as the “connectivity standard” for building operations and new developments And fast-growing companies like Uber are now targeting WiredScore-rated buildings as first priorities when opening new offices 2017 has been a massive year for WiredScore’s expansion with Wired Certification launching in Paris, Dublin, Berlin, Toronto and surpassing 1,000 Wired Certified Buildings around the world. WiredScore brought on Fifth Wall VC and Bessemer Venture Partners as new investors and was named to the Inc 500 list of America’s fastest-growing companies. Parents are immigrants from Holland who moved to the US in the 70’s- dad is in the hotel business and mom was a librarian for ~30 years. Grew up in Southern California (Orange County) Pre-WiredScore, worked as a management consultant at Boston Consulting Group, leading media & entertainment companies through “digital transitions” — in other words, helping analog companies like newspapers adjust to life in a digital world. Currently living in the East Village with girlfriend (Sara, who works in fashion at St. Laurent) and puppy (Fozzie) When not trying to make the world *better-connected*, he can be found playing pickup basketball at parks across the city, seeing live music, traveling to surfing destinations, and wandering around the East Village with Fozzie. Now for the real reason, he made it this year. Let me expand on the basketball theme. He and I had a lunch somewhere in the city and he told me this story. He and a few of his college friends reconnected and had decided to go to a Notre Dame (located in South Bend Indiana) football game or something like that. They found out that it was possible to rent the gym used in the movie Hoosiers. Now I am from Indiand BTW. So, they called the gym up and asked how much for like an hour. Arie said the number was so ridiculously low they decided to take a few hours. He and his boys drove down to the gym, got all retro dressed in short shorts and played some serious hoops in the legendary gym. Now that's how you get to be CEO of the year. You do shit like that because that's doing life right. This is the guy and crew you want to hang with, They know how to do it! So all the awesome company stuff is great and the WiredScore team is just hammering it. Could it be because of their basketball playing 2017 Top CRE TECH CEO? Well of course it is! The Evolution of REX. Prototypes, Seed Rounds, and Beta. At FOAM, our mission is to build a consensus-driven map of the world that can be trusted for all applications. To do this, we’re developing a protocol for proof-of-location, an API for geospatial interactions on the blockchain, and the Spatial Index... You can’t, you think you can but no, you can’t. What does it take to have a competitive real estate company today? At at least the basic level it should be what? Are you sure or are you just hoping it won't change until you retire? By definition, a quant is an expert at analyzing and managing quantitative data. Seems like a pretty basic thing. For commercial real estate as with most of the business world, it is the way all business is now and will be done. In other words...
