Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency that made blockchain a household word, has come and gone from news headlines. But companies using the decentralized networking technology are taking root and grabbing up city office space.
Consensys, the firm that developed the cryptocurrency Ethereum, has expanded its home base in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The firm recently grew its headquarters at 49 Bogart St. and has taken additional co-working space at 100 Bogart, a spokeswoman said.
Doruk Akpek, a product manager at Consensys, said the company has been creating specialized cryptocurrencies that are tied to specific neighborhoods and can be used to incentivize shoppers to visit local businesses.
