Tsunami ARVR Inc., a Los Angeles-based maker of enterprise software and other technology geared to virtual and augmented reality, has signed as the first tenant at the newly developed Torrey Point office campus in San Diego’s Carmel Valley area. According to brokerage firm CBRE Group Inc., which represents property owner American Assets Trust Inc., the tech firm plans to hire 200 to eventually work in the space, totaling 32,475 square on the first and third floors, that it is leasing at the campus, at 3430 Carmel Mountain Road on the west side of Interstate 5. Lease terms were not disclosed, but Tsunami plans to occupy the building in February 2018. The two-building, $53 million Torrey Point campus spans a total of 90,596 square feet and is located near Sorrento Valley and the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. CBRE’s Dick Balestri and Ryan Egli represented the landlord, and Tsunami ARVR represented itself. In a CBRE statement, Tsunami ARVR founder and CEO Alex Hern said the company was seeking a centrally located building with visibility from the freeway, and the new location will provide a “great platform” for future recruiting. Brokers said Torrey Point has on-site amenities including a bistro, indoor/outdoor collaborative areas, fitness center and locker facilities. The property was certified Silver under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. Tsunami ARVR was founded in 2014. Its investors include Ray Lane, a partner in venture capital firm GreatPoint Ventures and partner emeritus of Kleiner Perkins; and George Still, partner emeritus of Norwest Venture Partners. As of Sept. 22, Tsunami ARVR’s website showed 22 postings for job openings in San Diego, for positions including programmers, engineers and system architects. The company joins several other tech firms with existing regional operations in the San Diego market, including Google, Amazon and GoPro.
